Warren Morris, Kevin Witt, Danny Klassen, AJ Hinch, and Brian Schmanck were removed from the 40 man roster. Morris, was at least serviceable, which for the Tigers is actually pretty good. He doesn’t have a lot of upside beyond what he did this year, but at least he’s a known commodity. Based on Infante’s performance with the Tigers and Mud Hens this year, it doesn’t appear that he is ready. And after trolling through the farm clubs, I don’t see any other middle infielders north of A ball. Could it be that the Tigers are going to make an actual run at Castillo or Tejada?
Witt showed some skills at the plate, but his OBA was only .301 and he couldn’t hit lefties at all. Also, defensively he was limited to playing first base.
All 5 of them made it through waivers. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Morris back as a non-roster invitee in the spring. Did you see Rob Parker’s brilliant column? Pokey Reese, Sidney Ponson and Raul Ibanez. That would be a disaster. Just what is the attraction of no-hit wonders who can run a little like Pokey?
Castillo might be a good signing. He wouldn’t be expected to hit for power so the fences wouldn’t faze him. Alan seems addicted to the national league style of ball. It would be nice to get a player that actually fits into that style.
I’d like to see Castillo in a Tigers Uniform…I’d love to see Tejada in one…
I’d be interested in what Kelvim Escobar is asking for.
Of course we all noticed the “serviceable” ex-Tigers in the playoffs:
Karim Garcia, Mark Redmond, Randall Simon, Robert Frick, Damian Jackson, Juan Encarnacion
and some Im sure I’ve left off.
Things finally look up for the tigers…….
They finally found a way to get rid of that waste of space Shane Halter. This is the best thing to happen to the tigers in years. Where ever Shane things he is going I hope his new team knows the heimlich, because that apparently was Detroit’s problem with that POS.
8oThank’s for greate post.8i I compleatly agree with last post. geb
