I’m not going to be doing game thread’s on a regular basis this season. However, opening day is a special occasion. Feel free to post any thoughts about the game in the comments.
I’m heading home from work early to enjoy the game with my family. I planned on breaking out a bunch of junk food as a special treat. Unfortunately the stomach flu has wreaked havoc on the kids this weekend. Instead of hot dogs and pretzels they’ll be enjoying traditional ballpark foods like Saltines and Jello.
Do you have any special plans for today, or do you save it all up for the home opener?
I’m taking next monday off to go to the game, but today, I’ll have to listen to the first hour and then watch the rest at home.
I’m with you. Having to tivo the start of the game then watch the rest once I get home. And I plan on sneaking out a bit early so as not to have to fast forward too much of the hype.
Caught the Tigers season preview yesterday on FSN. You know it has the opportunity to be a long season when the motif of the show is the Olde English D of the uniforms.
I have just created my phantom “appointment” so I am out of the office and on my couch, like I do every away opener. I will go home, keep score on a legal pad and eat Chips Ahoy and drink Milk followed by a generous portion of beer. That way I can feel what it is like Dmitri Young in 2005…. Normally I listen to the game and keep score, but this year I have the plasma screen to watch the game on, can’t give that up to keep Old School… Prediction: We will win the game, but Walker will give up a long home run to a lefty. Fernando Rodney will get the W and Polanco the game winning hit.
Will be the first opener I’ll be able to watch since I moved to Texas 3 years ago, after purchasing MLB Extra Innings earlier today. Going to have hot dogs, candy, and soda for the early innings and some beer when it gets later.
Go Tigers!
Not cool!
Zumaya was outstanding today. Multi-inning dominant relievers are an assett. If they are 21 and throw 99 mph while keeping the ball down, all the better. I am looking forward to the Joel Zumaya era.
Well I watched the game here in NY on MLB.com’s wonderful streaming video service. Love it!
The game was pretty good, but a few things distressed me. First and foremost was the team’s inability to string hits together which resulted in a ton of players left on base. This seems to be an ungoing thing with the Tigers year after year and I hope to see some improvement soon before I start to get that old sinking feeling.
The Gambler was sharp as can be and the two guys coming out of the bullpen did a very nice job. I’d prefer to see them working from ahead in the count a bit more often (especially Rodney) but considering this was Zumaya’s first MLB appearance, I’d say the kid did great.
Guillen’s ding-dong as well as his beating out a throw from third for an infield single was really encouraging. I hope he holds up.
I listened to the game at work and it was a great first game. Shelton and Zumaya were awesome. I really liked the fact that Zumaya was able to come into a key spot in his first game and get the job done.
He really was impressive.
Bought one month of MLB tv to watch games not on local TV. Then found out about the blackout (it pays to read!) Anyway I tried it for the hell of it and ended up watching the whole game! NO blackout. Was that my lucky day or what??
i’m eric. joining a couple boards and looking
forward to participating. hehe unless i get
too distracted!
