Times 5

With 32 games in the record books, the season is a fifth complete (or at least a very good approximation). Because the Tigers have gotten off to such a fast start, I thought it would be fun to project final numbers based on these first 32 games. In other words, taking the current totals times five.

Even with losing 3 of the last 4, the Tigers are still on pace for 100 wins and the wildcard.

The entire starting rotation is on pace to become 15 game winners, with Kenny Rogers winning 25 and Mike Maroth winning 20. (How cool would it be for Maroth to win 20 games?)

Jeremy Bonderman is on pace to strike out 195.

The Tigers lineup has shown remarkable balance, especially in terms of power. No less than 7 Tigers project to hit 20 or more homers, and Dmitri Young isn’t one of them. Of those 7, 3 are on target for 40+.

Chris Shelton is hitting triples had at annualized rate of 15.

Curtis Granderson projects out to 95 walks, and 160 strikeouts.

Carlos Guillen is working towards 50 doubles, and 20 stolen bases, and 30 errors.

Kenny Rogers and Jeremy Bonderman are both set to throw 225+ innings.

Joel Zumaya is looking to strike out 80 batters in 65 innings.

Looking at the gaudy numbers that many Tigers have posted individually, it is easy to see why the Tigers have put up the record that they have. It also becomes evident how difficult it will be to keep up their current pace.

  1. Very informative, great post.

It would be quite a feat if Monroe could keep up his pace for 40 HR, 100 RBI, while maintaining his .274 OBP.

  2. Maroth winning 20 would be VERY cool.

    Also:

250 home runs for the team versus 115 home runs allowed

805 runs scored versus 555 runs allowed

  3. Wow, right after I posted on my site tonight, I come over and see this… The similarities are purely coincidental. My apologies.

  4. Nothing to apologize for Paul. Your take was much more in depth than mine. There’s room for everybody. BTW – nice clean design with your site. It’s much more attractive than my clutterfest.

  5. Awesome, just wanted to make sure you didn’t like I pilfering (or billfering) ideas. Thanks for compliment on the design.
