Dmitri Young has been place on the disabled list. Whether or not it was his quad or his other issues limiting him, he needs time to get himself right.
Jack Hannahan will get his first major league taste in Young’s place. Hannahan is 26, bats left handed, and spent the bulk of his minor league career as a solid defensive third basemen. This year he’s been playing several infield positions. He’s had a solid year at the plate hitting 282/390/412.
This is obviously a response to our collective demand for a higher team OBP!
I think that it has more to do with a collective demand that Dimi get his head on straight and his like he’s supposed to and has before. The last year he was healthy and hitting (2003) he had a .372 OBP.
I’ve been saying that he’s done for the past two years. I’ll be thrilled if he proves me wrong, gets his head on straight and starts hitting the way he used to. The recent legal trouble can’t be helping his attempt however.
Yes, you have to wonder about Big D. But he came here and played hard. His skills may be diminishing but lets give him the chance to swing this around after this DL stint.
I saw a couple spring training games in FLA. but do not remember Hannahan. I remember Hessman and Kelly mashing a couple. Was this guy with Toledo?. Does he have MLB potential of is he a fill in?
Tigers starting off poor tonight, but only down 1-0 after 2.
Have a great night
Steve
I saw Hannahan 4 games at Toledo. They were moving him around, 1b, 2b and 3b. He has a good glove, looks like a good athlete. LH hitter so that’s a plus. He has not hit a lot in his career. Not much power. He looked good when I saw him, taking a lot of pitches, hitting hard line drives. And he looks like he has a burning in his gut to make it. I like the kid but his upside is likely a utility guy.
