I’ve also wondered if politics ever enters the clubhouse. Also, after living in the US, how many of the latin players still maintain residences in Venezuala.
I have a sort of pride that we Americans want the Venzuelan players to come here unimpeded. Watching Don Cherry shows me how much the Candians resent European hockey players. Also the “real Americans buy American” bumper stickers that espouse an isolationist view are contrary to welcoming players of ANY nation.
It’s not POLITICS by itself that make this situation bad, it’s BAD politics. Libertarians (www LP dot org) call for maximum personal freedom and minimum government interference. Maybe we have some Libertarians in high-ranking baseball positions.
Good God, please do not assume that Don Cherry is representative of the views of Canadians…
That’s really cool that the Tigers voted to give him a playoff share and that percival bought the Tigers wive’s a suite.
If he’s healthy and can be effective (heard he was clocked at 97 on the gun recently) then I’m for signing him to an incentive laden contract.
Percival told the Los Angeles Times he’s been up to 92 mph, “but that’s probably as good as it’s going to get.”
Really? I had heard he was clocked at 97. Guess I was wrong. Either way, if his breaking ball is still in good shape he can get by at 92-93 then.
