Gosh, while I hope and pray it is nothing serious for Zach, this is happening at an incredibly convenient time for the team. Miner has pitched 4-5 times this week, Capellan was pitching better and Leyland lamented sending him down. Other than bereavement, I think, Capellan has to stay down 10 days in the minors. Now, you’ve replaced a guy who probably wasn’t go to pitch in the next two days, and who can be reinstated as early Monday night, with a guy fresher and pitching better. It’s like having a 26 man roster. I’m torn between hoping the Tigs are not gaming the system and hoping it’s nothing serious with Miner’s family.
I know i’m a heartless cynic for having these thoughts. I apologize preemptively.
And looking at Toledo box scores, Capellan never pitched for them this week. So, we get to add a guy who was hitting mid 90s on Sunday who is now pitching with four days rest. Hmm..
I realize i’m going to hell if this is something serious with Miner’s family.
I’m a cynic, too, but I don’t think there’s anything fishy here. Capellan was sent down when Vasquez came up, and Toledo was given instructions to “stretch Capellan out”. So he was going to kind of share starting duties with Anastacio Martinez today. You know, they each get three innings or something since they’re both relievers.
I think that’s why Martinez had the rest, and I’m sure there is something serious with Miner’s family. Of course, I’m the kind of person who’d never say a family member was sick to get out of work because I’d feel bad when it really happened. So maybe I’m just naive.
Stephen, Stephen, Stephen.
How could you even think such a thing? Throwing objects at a television set can be very hazardess to one’s health. Especially if the tube implodes. Story is, Grandma, die-hard Titans fan, was watching a re-run of Super Bowl XXXIV when the accident occurred. But she’s gonna be alright.
(I hope this little hypothesis of yours is right and I’m not going to hell with you).
In all seriousness, it’s probably a little of both; it’s probably something minor (hopefully) and the Tiger’s probably just siezed the opportunity to give Miner some time. Otherwise, if it was something major, like a death or something, wouldn’t they disclose? I think Michael Young’s Grandma just passed, the Rangers gave him bereavment and they disclosed the details to the media right away.
That should read, “…why Capellan had the rest…”
If only it was Zach himself… sorry, a bit liquified.. but damn that Sox game lives on.
dont get carried away ultra-sensitive folks.
