Roger DeWitt, Lakeland area photographer and member of Motown Sports snapped this photo of Rick Porcello in the Instructional League this afternoon. You can find more photos from today at in Roger’s Flickr stream. In there is a picture of Porcello playing catch with Joel Zumaya’s little brother, Richard.

Does anybody have any realistic idea of when Porcello could pitch his first game with the Tigers? 2009? 2010?
My personal guess is a 2010 callup in the later part of the season.
yay for High socks, Porcello!
I hope they don’t rush him up to the bigs just because we are so curious about him.
PS – is Rick Zumaya a pitcher too?
Zumaya’s little brother is a pitcher. He threw for the GCL Tigers this year.
I hope they handle Porcello better then they’ve been handling their minor leaguers lately.
Go Halladay!
Mike,
I assume you’re talking about Miller and Maybin specifically? I know they are the most valuable minor leaguers at the moment, and I share in your frustration, but otherwise I haven’t had a big problem with the handling of other prospects. Except maybe De La Cruz who they can’t decide if he’s a starter or reliever.
They’ve taken a nice approach with Jurrjens. They were right to skip Hollimon a level. Placing Worth at Lakeland seemed aggressive, but he responded well.
They did fine with Verlander, Zumaya, and Granderson as well.
The Olde English D sure looks good on him!!
I don’t disagree with testing young talent when the trade market isn’t brimming with options.
Miller and Maybin are not worse for wear.
