The Tigers spent a lot less on the draft this year. Is it because of the talent? Is it because of the big league payroll? Is it because there is some money allocated for international signings?
-
That old question, should Zumaya move to the rotation? Not this season of course, but it has to be a consideration with the Tigers taking a pile of relievers in the draft.

Marc Hulet of Fangraphs is churing a new article a day about Tigers prospects. This time it is Jonah NIckerson

These are my favorite types of Lynn Henning pieces where he explains some aspect of how the organization works. This time it is minor league promotions.

I’ll pass on Zumaya moving to the rotation.
Jonah Nickerson is still a near 24-year-old in A-ball.
Very interesting piece from Henning. I like those pieces.
I agree with Mike about Nickerson. He’s pitched well, but he’s been a bit too hot and cold to make a promotion obvious.
If there is a promotion to Erie from the Lakeland rotation, I’ll be curious to see who’s first between Nickerson, Below and Porcello. Nickerson’s age and control might make him the front-runner.
I’d like to see Below get the call soon. 22.5% K Rate, 9.6% BB rate, 3.39 FIP. I’ll take it.
Then Porcello get the call for the final few weeks of August and then he’ll make the trip to Detroit when the rosters expand.
