PREGAME: Zach Miner looks to bounce back from a rough outing against the Orioles. He didn’t make it out of the secon inning before allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. That came after 3 straight starts in which he pitched into the 6th inning and allowed 3 earned runs or fewer.
For the Royals it will be Kyle Davies. Davies has efficiency issues. He hasn’t recorded a 6th inning out since July 13th. In his last start against Detroit, he limited the Tigers to 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk, but he was lifted after 4 innings and 96 pitches.

Terrible clutch ABs by Maggs & Miggy.
Good to see Zach bounce back from his awful last start.
That was a pretty easy win. Zach is making a solid case for the ’09 rotation. He seems so much more comfortable as a starter.
Minor with a good win. Cabrera strikes again. This has been a nice road trip for the Tigers. Winning 4 out of 5 games so far.
just got back from hellboy…love the movies. nice to see us win another game. seems like this team is a little like jason grilli…play well when there is no pressure.
Zach Miner, unless he totally implodes, should be penciled in for the 2009 rotation.

Miner is now 11-8 with an ERA of 4.40 in 24 career starts.
He’s at his best when he’s throwing strikes and letting hitters hit ground balls. His control seems to be significantly better as a starter (37 BB in 122.2 IP) than as a reliever (54 BB in 106.1 IP). He’s given up more hits/HR per inning as a starter, though.
