Pitch F/Xer Josh Kalk was just hired by an AL team. He's the third pitch f/x guy to get the call. Kind of wish I'd invested more time in it.

Mourning baseball writer John Brattain. John and I were barely internet acquaintances, exchanging a couple emails over the last couple years. Still, it is a very sad event when a father leaves behind a wife and two daughters at way too young of an age.

Isn’t the line: “Asps – very dangerous… you go first.”?
And how do you pronounce De La Cruz’s first name? His last name is “of the cross”‘ They should have nicknamed him Sign.
Leave that last spot on the bench empty in case Miguel gets wind of that Whitecap Burger. You know how much he loves salsa and they do wonderful things with dry ice nowadays.
ron brings up a very good point. I’d also like to add that if Miggy were to go on the DL, do not (I can’t emphasize this enough) send him to West Michigan for a rehab assignment.
Chris, where is Smoking Loon? Has he changed his name again? Switched teams? What?
Wow, our local Whitecaps are getting huge mileage out of the “Fifth/Third Burger”…Yahoo, Drudge, CBS and now DTW!!
I don’t know ron – I haven’t seen him on here since New Years.
ron, not sure if you remember, but The Dugout had a nickname for De La Cruz….Funeral on a Ship
The burger was also on CNN and Deadspin.

+ Whos on First FTW!
I don’t know if anyone’s listening, but….
Jeez, the Tampa announcers have been brutal on the Tigers. Among the gems: (1) Cabrera is an “all or nothing” batter. (2) Granderson has average speed in center. Both followed each comment appropriately – (1) Cabrera doubling home Granderson, and (2) Granderson chasing down a shot to center at the wall. And a whole lot of trashing of the pitching staff. Not that it wasn’t all warranted, but they gave Chuck an absolute pass for the struggles last year and have made no mention of the staff’s injury problems.
Can’t wait for MLBtv to get back.
Does anybody think it hurts Porcello that he doesn’t get through more then 2.1 innings with his 40 or so pitch count?
It’s nice to see that the Tampa announcers haven’t lost perspective after one year of success
Kathy, I did not remember Funeral on a Ship. That’s a good one. And by the way, the burger was in the N.Y. Daily News. They suggested never to eat anything bigger than your head. Doing some research, I find that you would have to eat 35 and a half White Castle Slyders to reach that 4800 calorie plateau but you would not be getting the extra nutrition found in the two types of cheeses, salsa ,fritos, chili, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, etc. If they stuck a deep fried Kowalski skinless hot dog in the middle of that mess, I would give it a shot.
I often wonder when someone dies so young as Mr. Brattain of what exactly caused his death, especially during surgery. He was suffering from colitis and an unconfirmed type of anemia that destroys red blood cells and would weaken his heart over time. His last post on his site was very upbeat.
