The Tigers optioned Dusty Ryan to Toledo, Alfredo Figaro to Erie and assigned Scott Sizemore to minor league camp. That leaves the team with 45 players in camp.

TAKE WILLIS WITH YOU
Remember when we thought that Dusty Ryan might be our starting catcher this year? That changed pretty fast.
Ryan (the poster),
First, this is going to be awkward…I wouldn’t read too much into Ryan (the player)’s move. That “starting catcher” was going to be Ryan (the player)’s role changed right around the time they brought in Laird and Treanor, i.e. there wasn’t a three way battle to win the role. I think its simply a case of him needing to go somewhere to get playing time to develop, and he wasn’t getting any reps with the team in spring training.
Willis is going to be the most expensive middle reliever ever…Robertson just put in a very good days’ work.
N Robertson 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO.
Looks good on paper, hope he looked sharp live too.
Oh yeah, I knew that. I actually would be pretty upset if they were actually going to try him out at catcher this year. But at the end of last season, I remember talking about it.
There may be hope that Dusty Ryan figures into their 2010 or 2011 plans. He’s got potential, and I think it’s clear that the Tigers felt their catching depth was inadequate before this year. They now have 2 major-leaguers, and 2 suitable fill-ins (Sardinha, Ryan). But Sardinha can’t hit, and Ryan needs seasoning.
Re: Robertson… I was worried his loss of velocity was due to arm problems, but it sounds like he’s deliberately trying to rely more on craft than heat from here on out. He’s coming around.
