The Tigers purchased the contract of Don Kelly. We’ll see if this will prompt Jim Leyland to give Brandon Inge some rest. Jeff Larish was added to the 60 day DL to free up the spot on the 40 man roster.

I thought Kelly did a nice job during his stint earlier this year and I was hoping he’d get a call up. He was a big part of what I consider the Tigers best win of the year when he drew that walk in the bottom of the 9th against the Cubs in June.
Yes, please. His D may not be up to Inge’s level, but he should at least be able to do better than .172 at the dish – at least I hope so! And Inge can still come in as a defensive replacement late in the game if need be. Sometimes it may work out well to get the unknowns into the lineup since they haven’t necessarily been “booked” yet by the rest of the league (see: Alex Avila). And he does provide another LH bat. Considering how the Tigers have used the shuttle system with Toledo this year, I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to expand the roster beyond the 6 extras they recalled on 9/1. I guess if you add in Galarraga and Kelly, that makes 8 additional players so far. Except for having to bring some folding chairs into the dugout because of the lack of bench space, I don’t see what the problem is with all the extras, despite what the EM says.
Even having some of these young guys around as pinch runners can be a big help, as Wilkin has shown us.
