Game 2009.135: Tigers at Rays

PREGAME: The Tigers look to extend their 4 game winning streak tonight in Tampa. Did you know that the Tigers haven’t had even a 4 game winning streak since June when they swept Milwaukee and the Cubs in back to back series (and added a win against the Cardinals to make it a 7 game streak. And they hadn’t won 4 games in a row against AL teams since they swept the A’s and Rangers back to back in May.

James Shields, who has allowed a league leading 203 hits, takes the mound for the Rays. The Tigers picked up 10 hits off of Shields in 7 innings in Detroit last time (including 2 homers) but only plated 4 earned runs.

Armando Galarraga returns from his Toledo sabbatical  without getting that rehab start the Tigers were hoping he’d get.

  1. Ange, Because you and I cant…………… I often wonder that. I our walk of life mediocre performance gets mediocre pay. It is really something that a guy like Armondo will make more in three or four years than I will my whole life.

    Any way Lets go TIGERS

  2. I just looked and Curtis has over 60 walks so far. I wouldn’t have bet 5 dollars of Coleman’s money he was even over 50

  3. Well that’s something to be thankful for…gotta keep an eye on the $5 bills these days.

Still. Curtis doesn’t have many walks for the number of pitches he sees

  4. Same old crap from Galarraga. Pull him now and don’t let him throw another pitch this year.

  5. Does anyone wonder if Nate would have been a better choice here?

Ejax, Verlander and Porcello are listed as next one the probables

  6. As I was saying you know it might be a long day when you see pitch sequences with 89 mph fastball and 87 mph changeup

  7. We saw something like 23 pitches that inning…we’re gonna get Shields one way or another…we really need to keep T B off the board though…go Eddie Bo

  8. If Gameday can be believed, Bonine changed speeds and moved the ball around nicely that inning.

  9. I hope he does well, especially now that I’ve realized I can abbreviate his name as “Bo9”

    1. You beat me to it!

It’s a bit hard to say who are the B.O.O.B.s and who not what with all the pinch-hitting and such…but yeah!

  10. Hope I am wrong, but I have my doubts about Mner having more than a couple good outings in a row.

      1. Ha! I’m 4-for-4 now on the Miner good luck charm…

Oh, and: we’re the best 5-4-3 DP team in baseball

        1. Speaking of double plays, what is the running total for the Tigers GIDP? They must be over 200 by now.

          1. We’re in a tailspin; only at 109, and have plummeted to 9th in the AL, barely above league avg…although in large part due to lack of baserunners more than anything else.

  11. Another freakin’ wedding, during the Texas home opener no less. Thank goodness for iPhones. Lots of heart today. Go Tigers.

    1. Oh and if you’re a Texas fan it may amuse you to know, on the chance you already don’t, BYU just finished upsetting Oklahoma.

  12. I didn’t dare log on to be the jink……but that game was managed in the excellent category……smokey this one is for YOU……..Great job Tigers

  13. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew, that was a nice win against a decent team. Something we haven’t been great about this year. Taking a pair in TB when they are still kind of in it and the AL champs. Decent job fellows

  14. Great win for the Tigers and besides Galarraga great pitching. Bondo threw well and gives hope to believe he can come all the way back next year to his old self. Also the squeeze was a thing of beauty to watch.

  15. Incredible work from the bullpen tonight and really nice to see the offense produce. Love the expanded lineup!

  16. Thanks Coleman. I’ve got mixed feelings bc now if we beat OU we should have, and if we lose it’s an upset, but all in all, an amazing sports day. Can’t wait to get home and watch the highlights.
