Every year brings a few changes to Comerica Park. Sometimes it’s new menu items, or food, signage, or game presentation. This year brings a little of everything.
- Last year when General Motors was in the throes of bankruptcy they couldn’t sponsor the centerfield fountain so Mike Ilitch used it as a way to support the Big 3. Things are looking up for GM I guess because they are now sponsoring the fountain again.
- I didn’t partake in the new garlic fries or sliders, but I was thrilled to see that the hot dog vendors aren’t toting the pre-packaged dogs with soggy buns anymore. They had the old Tiger Stadium style containers with buns on one side, dogs on the other, and they put them together complete with mustard. Awesome.
- The rally towels that were handed out had World Series 2009 stickers on them. Me thinks they were meant to be used last fall.
- Scott Sizemore’s walk up music was Ted Nugent. Nice choice for the rookie.
- For the last couple years the Tigers have played Daft Punk’s One More time after wins. They didn’t today. Not sure what it was (I’m not so good at remembering songs/artists).
- With the crowd of 45K there were certain logistical issues. Restroom lines were 2 innings long. Concession lines were lengthy (except for the poor lonely guy out in the cold and wind selling lemonade). And the season ticket VIP red carpet entrances were used by everyone.
Curious to see (or smell) if the garlic fries smell is as pervasive as it was at Safeco Field. It was like a battle of will not to get any, that aroma practically pulling you by the nostrils.
We noticed the rally towels said 2009 on the way home.
I kind of feel like someone in the family died and someone said I should just take the gift they were going to give them on their birthday.
In my section someone desparately needed a tissue. As a last resort they used the rally towel just before Peralta made his 3-run miscue. I kind of feel bad for the guy now. For the rest of the season while I’m turning my cap to incite a rally he’ll have to . . .
the return of garlic fries?! the bbq place used to have them two seasons ago…. excited to try them out again…
Wow, I could almost weep at the nostalgia of the two-sided Hot Dog vending thing. If the NFL schedulers do things right with the Eagles-Lions game I MAY have a shot at seeing Comerica this year.
Glad to hear the Tiger Stadium style hot dog vending containers are back. One of my favorite memories of childhood at Tiger Stadium was the hot dog vendor schooling me when I asked if I could have ketchup and relish on my red hot. He looked at me incredulously and said, “Son, you only need mustard on a Tiger Stadium dog!”
I’ve only put mustard on my hot dogs ever since 🙂
Good to hear that they are back on right path. I’ve had some terrible hot dogs at Comerica in the past. They had No quality control whatsoever.
