Game 2010.030: Tigers at Indians Redux

We’ll try this again, although the conditions don’t look much better than last night. Dan Dickerson reports that there are 60mph win gusts in Cleveland. Regardless of the direction of the wind, it will certainly making catching the ball a challenge.

That wind would certainly seem to favor Justin Masterson who gets 56.8% of balls hit on the ground as opposed to the other Justin, Justin Verlander who only has a 38.2% ground ball rate.

  1. Note to Verlander: good things happen when you throw strikes, bad things happen when you don’t.

  2. If Verlander is really going to be the ace we want him to be, he’s just going to have to throw 130 pitches per game. Doesn’t look like there is any other way for him. So, I hope he can handle it!

    1. The problem is, that 130 pitches too often translates to 7 innings or less.

  3. walk and end up scoring..walk and end up scoring . lead off .walk aand end up scoring could be the story of this year,,,

    1. Walks have so far this year bitten the Tigers in the a$$ just about every time!

  4. I’m losing my patience with Verlander. First three innings: 44 pitches. Next three innings: 75 pitches. I don’t expect him tp pitch a shutout every game, but this is a regular pattern now. I am beginning to think he is just another Bonderman with more strikeouts.

    1. even his body language changes. he was all over the place …body wise in those last three and in the first three very mch under control

    2. “I am beginning to think he is just another Bonderman with more strikeouts.”

I do not understand what you are getting at? In terms of overall talent? The amount of pitches he throws? I really do not see too many similarities between the two.

  5. Think Don Kelly and Ryan Raburn as Action Jackson and Miggy Cabrera’s replacements in the lineup.

  6. Maybe that was Leyland telling us THIS is why I pulled Boesch for a PH the other day when a lefty came in…

  7. My first trip to Cleveland. My thoughts thus far:
    cold
    crazy windy
awesome scoreboard. It’s way better than CoPa, I have to give them props
    thank you Kerry wood
nice ballpark. I like the hall of fame display in center, and some of the between inning entertainment.

    1. A lot of Tiger fans too, you can hear the cheering when they do something good.

  8. I wonder if we can order a new catcher on Amazon.com. They have lots of stuff there. If not a how to hit book for the guys (catchers) we have. A hit there would have been pretty nice.

    1. I wonder if you can package every catcher in theTiger system …..trade them all for one that can actually hit

        1. With the draft coming up, it will be interesting to see who DD picks; besides catching 3B is a system weakness too. Or will he continue to go with pitching as the priority? OF and 1B don’t appear to be a need for quite the time being (until we trade Cabrera to the Red Sox).

          1. A tiger never changes its spots. He’ll draft the best available guys, with a strong preference towards power arms with high ceilings.

  9. Lots of tigers fans here. Even a “let’s go tigers” chant.

    Tigers win!

    Great day, despite the weather.

  10. can’t we just load the schedule with the Indians and Angels? Seems fair to me…..
