The Tigers were rained out for the second time in a week. This time though they’ll try to do a double header with this being the Yankees only trip to Detroit.
Rick Porcello will face off against Javier Vazquez in the early game. Both pitchers are off to rough starts.
Vazquez has combined a horrible walk rate with a career high fly ball rate (and subsequently 8 homers in 23.1 innings) to a 9.78 ERA.
Porcello is still getting ground balls (55%) but quite a few are turning into hits. He has a .339 BABIP against on ground balls and a normal rate is closer to .260. He’s also only stranding 58% of runners which is leading to longer innings and shorter outings.
Walking a guy who can’t hit a lick for the second time!
Wow! Top of the 5th and still no score.
Nice catch by Damon.
Porcello is looking like the Porcello we know and love…
ya good to see Porcello getting down in the strike zone. That sinker must be coming around….lots of ground balls so far
He’s pitching “lights out” now.
Austin Jackson: Will he or won’t he get a hit here with 2 on, 2 outs.
Make that Adam Everett. Well, we all know what he did.
someone tell me again why Everett and Laird are on a major league roster let alone bat back to back in the Tigers line up
How about Laird with the only hit while currently batting a buck fifty nine.
At least Adam Everett is consistent.
Wait Javy Vazquez, he’s the guy that won the Cy Young, right?
Who will blink first?
Here’s Johnny!
Nice take-out at second by JD!
The boys are rolling now!
a rare RTL20uts run …take it
Dude thats like a George Bush tax rebate, take. Be happy you got it and spend it all on a big TV
Dude thats like a George Bush tax rebate, take it. Be happy you got it and spend it all on a big TV
I bought a car.
Sweet
how about this Boesch kid!!! atta boy!!
Another Run Boesched In!
Kid Boesch rules. That triple he smoked on Monday sounded like the baseball exploded. 15 ribbies in 47 at-bats. Miggy has been prophetic so far: he gets big hits that win ball games.
Coleman, Thats good
when Inge is awful he is REALLY awful!….. and that awful streak continues
$hit…..Inge hits into an inning ending DP!
At least he returned the favor in the 7th
I stuck out in my game last night and my 12 year old was calling me Inge, how about that !!. It Kinda hurt him being correct.
Why did they not bunt him there?
Ugh, Inge. Too bad Boesch can’t play 3rd.
HUGE inning coming up here. Come on Porcello, 7 scoreless.
Outstanding. Perry then Valverde? Or do you let Porcello go one more. I’d prefer to bring in Perry, or Ni to get Tex from the right, and then Perry. I think Zumaya still needs to rest from Monday night.
Wow Inge really is dead weight in the lineup from the offensive side and continues to hit near his career average which isn’t good at all.
one more at bat and Inge will be at the mendoza..no I mean the Inge line
Inge does do that well…very well!
Inge needs to go 1 for 5 with a walk in his next six plate appearances and he will be exactly at his career average. He is awesome in his consistency.
This would be quite a “coup” if we win this game.
Wow. 91 pitches through 7. Does Porcello pitch the 8th and try to save the bullpen an inning?
No…….JL won’t allow it.
Hopefully the real RC ……..is back in town!
I mean RP.
I like Perry here. This is undoubtedly a huge confidence boost for Porcello. Great job kid.
It’s Perry and Valverde’s job to ensure that we win games like this.
What was Everett swinging at ………..a butterfly…..I thinkk it’s a little early for them.
Great job today by Porcello hopefully he is back!…great movement and kept the ball down,,,,,,,
Ramon! Sizemore doesn’t make that play
I leave Perry out there. Save Valverde for tonight in case we need him.
good point!
Mr. Potato Head on the mound
I disagree. I like having Valverde out there. It’s a save situation. Go for the win while we can. You never know what will happen this evening. We’ve got a chance to win now, let’s go with it.
2 down now.
Generally I’d agree with you, but Perry had only thrown 10 pitches. JL played it right, maybe Perry will be avail tonight.
kind of reminds you of Grilli and Jones doesn’t it???
Not exactly
Now, that was a helluva game!
Great game! Also noted: Before the season is over, someone is going to bunt down the line, make Valverde field it, and run him over. Hard.
I have to admit, if I were on the opposing team, I would not like it, and I would be looking for any way to get “payback”. Baseball doesn’t usually take such celebrating lightly.
They’ll hurt themselves if they try to run over Valverde, he’s a big dude. They just need to resign themselves to being mashed by the big potato and go about their business.
Nicely pitched & played game…..avoided giving up the big inning…..let’s take that winning feeling over to the nite-cap!
I live in upstate NY and its Yankees this and Yankees that. Great to see those guys go down. Hopefully we can take the night cap. The weather shows partly sunny tonight for the start.
Lets go TIGERS
I haven’t seen too many folks here posting about what a lousy trade (Grandy for Coke&AJax) and free agent signing Valverde was/is… i know its early but… i’m just saying.
Also very little smack directed at DD in quite some time…
I’ll fess up and acknowledge i thought they paid too much for Damon and that they might have signed better/cheaper – i was wrong. But i will say that at the time i thought the Grandy/Jackson trade and the Valverde signing were good for now and the future… so far, so good.
SN, I was thinking Johnny d was a little over paid as well, but it sounds like he is a great locker room fit. So I was wrong there. I did not have a feeling on how A Jax was but boy you really have to wonder why the Yankees traded all that for Grandy. I love Grandy but hitting lefties was challenging and look what we got for him, A decent bullpen arm and a potential team changing / game changing center fielder.
Eitehr way i am happy where we are. Plenty of people would love to switch with us.
Gotta love the early declaration of vindication in the face of perfectly valid concerns.
I will be the first to send Dombrowski flowers if Jackson hits above, say, .290 for the year. Right now, that trade looks like Dombro’s finest moment redeeming him for some of his bloated free agent contracts.
no ‘declaration of vindication’ here – simply some observations… prefaced with disclaimers, such as “i know its early” and “so far, so good”
gotta love a committed ‘post master general’
Here here. They were good moves and most of the fanbase is only now accepting it…though I suspect once Jackson’s BA drops to around 270 and Granderson gets healthy and hot, you’ll hear more moaning. Damon and Valverde were good signings too, even after they cool of.
The good thing is that the hot starts will get some of the DD-haters to quiet down.
Kinda like I had to during Inge’s hot start last year. Speaking of….does anyone know where I can find individual player stats for LOB? I wonder if Inge has a shot at leading the league this season.
Not sure, but here are some fun ones: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players/player/splits/2010/128898?tag=pageRow;pageContainer
