  1. When asked to comment about the Young altercation in NYC, now ex-Tiger Brandon Inge surmised, “Delmon’s more of a contact hitter, but me, i probably would have swung and missed…the guy”

  2. Sounds like it wasn’t much of an incident — a guy was pushed and fell down — but being so drunk that they had to take him to a hospital is not good.

I was thinking it was pretty likely we’d be trading this guy later in the year. This won’t help.

    1. Oh. That’s not good. I just read the enhanced article that now has new details including Young’s alleged anti-Semitic tirade after seeing a yarmulke-wearing panhandler.

      1. Obviously, the tirade isn’t appropriate, but I can’t believe they’re charging him with a “hate crime”. If cussing and pushing amounts to a “hate crime”, the phrase has lost all meaning.

        1. MLB is a major corporation, Did you see what drunken anti-semetic rants did to Mel Gibson’s career? This is a serious issue. The hate part is yelling anti-semetic things as you fight the guy…forgive the jews for being a bit sensitive. The holocaust will do that to people. I have some issues w/ hate crime legislation, but, it does not excuse moronic behavior or change how selfish this guy is…The Tigers are trying to win a World Series and this guy can not keep from being arrested, regardless of the charge. There are a lot of people that get drunk every day and don’t find themselves arrested. Delmon Young is a moron. Judging by Tigers precedent, he will be in the lineup tonight. His brother lost it and had to be cut from a pennant winning team, Delmon almost blew his opportunity at the bigs, by throwing a bat at an umpire. The Tigers better suspend this guy, to send a message and be prepared to play w/out him. (I hope that isn’t the case, but, it’s hard to trust him at this point)

          1. None of which has anything to do with whether or not the state should charge him with a hate crime. Assault? Sure, it sounds like that’s called for. Hate crime? Not a chance.

  3. Leyland said the team needed “a mean streak.” Then they released the team nice guy. Maybe Delmon was just responding to coaching.

He is now the team’s Designated Hitter.

Well Jim……. where’s your mean streak to implement a midnight curfew on game nights?

      C’mon Mr. Softee!
      How about a return to Mr. Tough Guy-Manager – pre-July 2007?

  4. My Ole Man always said “If it is after midnight and it sounds like a great idea; it isn’t and it’s time to go home!”
