29-21, 1st place, 2.5 games up.
What a game last night. Hate to lose a close one at home, but props to Pittsburgh.
Grilli was even better than advertised. We always knew that he could throw heat, but that slider was nasty. Cabbie just looked silly, and I still have no idea what Prince was swinging at. I think Cabby is just in a little lull. He can’t dominate for 162, I’m not worried about it.
On a tight schedule today, I’ll have more fun stuff tomorrow.
Let’s go Tigers.
Tonight’s No DH Lineup:
1. Dirks, LF
2. Hunter, RF
3. Cabrera, 3B
4. Fielder, 1B
5. Peralta, SS
6. Avila, C
7. Infante, 2B
8. Kelly, CF
9. Sanchez, P
The Tigers are one of the few AL teams that lose very little by giving up the SH.
Or even the DH. It takes a certain amount if skill to spell ‘DH’
incorrectly.
Of even “of” skill. Perhaps I should retreat to my igloo for the remainder of the evening.
Don’t feel bad. I seem to be on a little roll myself of of repeating words inadvertently and misspelling opposing players’ names when I even identify them correctly to begin with.
SH stands for “Supposed Hitter.”
And Verlander is available to pinch-hit for Sanchez.
That was a joke until I saw Sanchez at the plate.
and at least Verlander thinks he can hit the ball….
Cabrera is awful, he will be out of baseball in two years.
Someday that will be true. That dude in San Diego just gave up too early.
Infante has a momumental task in holding up the BOBs today.
Well he just got screwed because it was a tie to the runner. Although if he ran in the dirt where I think a player can run faster than on grass, then he could have gained a tiny bit. Our players most often run on the grass though because they think that limits injuries although some scientists claim that running on grass actually is more likely to create an injury. But not many people dispute you can run faster on dirt than on grass. I think our players are told to do whatever they think is more comfortable or whatever they prefer. Not sure anybody really cares about minor things to discuss like this though so sorry if it’s out of place.
You should write a guide on how to run to first base.
Wow is this the real Bort? Hey buddy!
16 innings without a run?
Craig Monroe. Brutal.
I blame Craig Monroe. Never again, FSD.
Alex is coming around. Solid single to the second baseman.
who in their right mind would bat Avila 6th………no answer requirred
who in their right mind would bat Avila (period)
Yes, but he makes up for it by his horrible throws to 2nd.
Don’t forget the passed balls called wild pitches.
To be fair, he did a great job on a Marte bunt earlier.
I see a Santiago start at 2B tomorrow.
….. and throw the game ….. are you taking the same bad drugs as Smokey!
Omar is tired. Not too good on the road, either, last I checked.
Man this game took a sharp turn.
Yeah. Fell apart in about 7 seconds. Unreal.
put a tent on this circus……..wowwwwww
when it comes to exposing the Tigers attempting basic fundementals…….its pretty easy to make them look bad
7th inning you let 7 batters reach base two wild pitches two steals before you change pitchers…..hmmm!
Ha ha! Pirates have had some clown show tonight. McCutchen thrown out at 2B standing up on a SB attempt! That almost makes up for the Tigers (and me) caught sleeping on the squeeze play.
appears both Wings and Tigers going to taste defeat tonight…
unless Grilli has a flashback
Grilli needs to be Kronwalled.
18 of the last 19 NHL teams that took a lead into game 7 won…and the way the Wings have played in the first two periods, indicates this game/series will follow the norm
…and then the Wings just tied it
Go Wings!
Martinez reaches first on the double. Well done.
I have faith. Here we go Cabrera.
Well, that blows.
Are the fireworks really necessary?
I have no faith in 9th inning Cabrera. That’s when I like to see Avila or Kelly up there.
Holy cow Grilli is amazing.
I think the Tigers are helping a bit with that.
Hard to argue with the other 20 saves he had coming into this series.
National League. High Triple A.
darn ugly baseball…the whole team looks tired!..
At least the Tigers wasted little time in losing tonight. Quick game.
What makes a series? Is it the opponent or the venue? I say opponent. This is a 4-game series against the Pirates. Take that, silly FSD.
I think this might have been the first time in 2013 – at Game 51 – that a starter has blown up and lost the lead in the mid-to-late innings. Am I forgetting something?
Firster gave up a lead to TX on 5/19 in the 5th inning, then Ortega finished the collapse.
that’s Fister
Thanks. Any others come to mind? I think it’s been unusually rare.
i think you’re right, today/Sanchez is the only other…and it is fairly rare for the DET starters in years past
Looked it up to refresh my memory. Scherzer blew the lead in the 4th in the 7-5 loss to the Astros, but the hitters tied it up to get him off the hook for the loss.
You guys watching the Wings game? WOW.
headed for OT
they just waived off a CHI goal… because of a mid-ice minor off-setting minor penalties (that occurred in front of the DET bench)…WHAT A BREAK!
if the Wings end up winning this game, CHI fans will be stewing on that waived-off goal for the next few years…even though, its clear it was the right call.
I thought they called a penalty on the CHI player that tripped the Red Wing behind the play but got us for the Roughing. If not, then it could have been, because our guy was spilled pretty hard first. So it kind of evens out.
Zetterberg was tripped on the play, and Quincy’s hit/tackle was a response to that trip…but that’s all academic now, Wings go home, CHI advance
Well the only rule in hockey is that the rules are never truly equitable nor are they consistent.
Maybe they should throw away the rulebook and simplify it further and just tell referees to use their gut to make things seem about right.
My big pet peeve with the rules is how slow the game gets with stoppages, so I think if a team is offsides then they should let play continue to in a way punish the team in the offensive zone that shouldn’t be there, but they can salvage it by clearing the puck over the blue line like you can do in basketball when you check it, only all players in violation must each also clear themselves. That way the play never stops and you can refresh the zone or have a risk of creating a turnover. It would also create more opportunities for unique offensive plays where you could strategize neat ways of refreshing the zone if you have a man already in there. It’s advantage defense, but that’s what you get for being offsides initially and of course the best part being there is one less reason to have to blow the darn whistle.
Plus brand new ways to create new types of transitions for playing off of those turnovers that sometimes they will be vulnerable to. That would be a whole new category of types of highlights and another element to the game, while also speeding up the action.
And after they make those changes, then we can discuss changing the shape of the ends of the rink and talk about eliminating Icing from the game.
That would be kind of silly though, cause then it would just create a lot more work for the league to accommodate the growing demand and increase of fans. And who wants to mess with all of that paperwork?
I live in Blackhawks territory. If the Wings win, I’ll let you know about the teeth-gnashing I’ll hear tomorrow morning. I’m hoping for it.
Well so much for that. And my sister lives there too but she’s a Detroit fan since she has lived most of her life here.
Or not. Maybe it would be a good day to call in sick.
its over Bhawks win
Tough deflection. What are you gonna do.
Be happy that they have Dekeyser for the full year next year.
