Baseball Reference Game Preview
Trevor Bauer vs. Anibal Sanchez tonight.
Victor is back in the lineup. Andy Dirks won’t be back for a while longer than a while. The Tigers went back to the Draw-ing board and ended up with two Drews: VerHagen will make his MLB debut in the Saturday doubleheader.
Ah, back to real baseball after a 4-day vacation.
Tigers lineup vs Bauer (from Jason Beck)
1. Austin Jackson, CF (0-for-4, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
2. Ian Kinsler, 2B (3-for-7, HR, K)
3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (2-for-6, 2 doubles)
4. Victor Martinez, DH (2-for-5, HR, walk, K)
5. J.D. Martinez, LF (1-for-3)
6. Torii Hunter, RF (1-for-3, HR)
7. Nick Castellanos, 3B (1-for-6, K)
8. Alex Avila, C (3-for-5, HR, walk, K)
9. Eugenio Suarez, SS (0-for-3, 2 K’s)
When does the real baseball start?
According to Beck, Dirks should be able to get back to his rehab assignment in about a week. He’ll have 12 days more of game activity before a decision has to be made. That would put him beyond the trade deadline of July 31, so it will be interesting to see what DD does. On the other hand there are ways to get deals done after the trade deadline, so that isn’t necessarily a major obstacle.
Frankly, with 4 OFers on the roster now, none of whom look like they are going anywhere, Dirks might only become a logical addition when the rosters expand Sep 1. And in the meantime, Carerra is waiting in the wings and probably deserves more of a chance than Dirks anyway.
Watched Carerra in the AAA All -Star game, like his game.
Greetings from Saudarkrokur, Iceland where I am with Dan and Jim for the game. Its 50F, overcast and drizzly in northern Iceland. Keep the wheels on the cart.
Cool (literally), and greetings. It’s later there. Did the Tigers win?
This is always hilarious to me.
I think Bauer gets lots of routine flyballs and popups every time he faces the Tigers. Wish they’d figure him out.
Fortunately, Sanchez seems to be way ahead of that plan.
And they have actually scored 3 whole runs for him for a change.
As Miggy slowly sinks towards .299 which is what normal players hit, I think its time to officially be worried that he ain’t right!!!
Whoa did Austin get on his horse for the out on Murphy! Wow!
Interesting article on being “hot”, “on fire”, “in the zone”, etc.

Hey Sanchez ! What just happened??…using the 7 th inning guys is never good!!!
unraveling and fast.
Krol still sucks!
In Krols last 9 appearances he had allowed a run or more…Sure glad that arm is better!. In fact his ERA had gone up in 8 of his last 9 games
before today Krol against RH hitters .370 BA 1.120 OPS – he’s faced 54 RH hitters and given up 5 HR’s… i understand they pinch hit Rugburn, but even so, why would Ausmus ever let Krol pitch to any righty (based on the fact/stats) in a close game?…even Rugburn
That’s his role.
Ian Krol can’t be long for this team. He really can’t.
Ugly
something tells me DET will be bringing in Benoit or Soria within a week
Hey Al…nice work!…you should have pitched Home Run Derby!
Kiss this one goodnight.
Bullpen got a little rusty over the break.
Cabrera should have hit in the home run derby. Players who decline the home run derby usually have problems in the 2nd half.
Hey 7th inning guys we need you to get a couple guys out!!. Wait you asked us to do that last week. Isn’t that asking a lot??… my fault!
Smith is like Mini-Reed. It’s uncanny.
I get the sense that Smith has never retired 3 consecutive batters in his professional career. No wonder he fits in so well.
Can’t this just end so I can post a final score?
My only question is…what does the blowpen coach get paid for???????
Answering the phone, and handing out baseballs….
