Game 2016.70: Mariners at Tigers

Why is it that every time it’s my turn to do one of these, it seems like Mike Pelfrey is pitching? How did Kevin work that out? I sense a diabolical plot.

Actually, Pelfrey has had three decent outings in a row. The Tigers are beginning a 9-game home stand.

The Tigers try yet another stab at shoring up their bullpen with a call-up of Dustin Molleken; Casey McGehee’s stay was all of one day. The Canadian Molleken (not to be confused with Molson) has been puttering around the minors for 13 seasons. If you can’t get called up by the Tigers with their bullpen now, then when? Let’s hope he makes the most of his shot.

Today’s Home Sweet Home Lineup:

  1. Kinsler, 2B
  2. Maybin, CF
  3. Cabrera, 1B
  4. Martinez, DH
  5. Castellanos, 3B
  6. Upton, LF
  7. Moya, RF
  8. McCann, C
  9. Iglesias, SS

Predicting a good day for Victor.

  1. Moving Upton up to 6th ..Brad -1…
6 hits and no one stirring in the pen…Brad -2

  2. Every pitch by Pelfrey is exactly the same. No curves..no change ups..no sliders every single pitch 92 and straight…or in baseball terms….BP
Still no stirring in the pen…Brad -3

  3. 44 pitches and he just threw his first off speed curve……u can’t make this up!

  4. Tigers usually have 10 hits and 3 runs..Seattle reversing that today. Thanks to the DP Tigs are fortunate to be 4-3 at this point in the 4th…

  5. Razor sharp game in and game out!..because the Tigers will not do anything about him because of $$$ he will very likely lose 20

  6. McCann gets walked on 4 pitches nowhere near the strike zone. IGGY steps in and basically throws his bat at the first pitch in the LH batters box…easy pop out….only our Tigers

  7. Pinch running for Cabrera is the kiss of death. Romine will GIDP with the bases loaded in the 11th.

  8. First and second no one out. Brad doesn’t believe in moving the runners…waste of an out he says…so its the usual hack hack hack…both Upton and Avilies outs were balls out of the strike zone….only the Tigers

  9. I’ve been elsewhere for most of the game so I was surprised to see Avilas instead of Moya. Announcer said he was a defensive replacement. Was that a joke? I know Moya is not the best of right fielders but is Aviles?

    1. Aviles for Moya was a joke, wasn’t it..every ball hit to Right after Moya left was a double…Avilies couldn’t get to anything. Moya isn’t great out there but Aviles isn’t any better!

  10. Heres how the Tigers pitching works: chance of winning
    9 innings : 50%
    10 innings :33%
    11 innings : 5%
    12 on………0%

    1. …and w/Cabrera now out of the lineup (for a pinch runner), those %’s could be lower

  11. Seattle bunted a runner up. Lamont is checking with MLB headquarters to see if its legal!…

  12. Well, now you have seen the juggernaut that is the 2016 Seattle Mariners! A lot more power than anyone could have predicted, and the M&M boys ( Marte And Martin) are good table setters. The consensus over here on this side of the continent is that barring injuries they will give Texas a run for their money…. I, for one am not holding my breath… Watching the replay ( had a pitching clinic tonite for grandsons BB club) has that ball Miggy hit landed yet?

  13. If Cano..Cruz..Seager go 2/16 often theres a lot of losses ,Jim. What I have a hard time figuring out is how Marte is only hitting .275 if thats the way he swings. He is a frickin stud!..he hit lazers tonight!

    1. Agree with my bud jud, if those 3 guys are not hitting or get hurt ( knock on wood) the M’s are very ordinary. I think Marte is just getting back to top shape was hurt for a while. When I saw him at AAA last year, I asked everyone, why is he not in the big leagues, lots of upside there.

  14. A win when Pelfrey starts is a big positive, but he should still be in the pen as the long mop up guy.
