  1. Quintana is a very good pitcher so this could go either way. Glad to see Ian back in lineup. I still would like to see JJ play more.

  2. Is it possible they have the same base running instructor we do? They just ran themselves out of a possible big inning.

  3. DET facing another lefty today, and a good one at that (Quintana), so will DET continue to struggle vs lefties?

  4. I’m not getting a good vibe about Sanchez pitching in homer-friendly US Cellular today – just sayin

        1. I have been in Lakeland watching The Tigers work on baserunning several times in the spring…you might as well have a card table, poker cards, chips and beer there for how serious they take it!

  5. My gosh Kinsler….get a frickin clue!!!!!!
Brad, “were gonna work on this in spring training”
    Kinsler “why?”

    1. mindboggling how a guy can get picked off first so many times… its rare for a player to get picked off once in a year – I believe Kinsler has been picked off first 4-5 times just this year

  6. BAL just lost (to TAM) so DET could move back into a tie for the final WC spot w/a win 2day

    1. Wow!…story of the season..basically anyone on the Tigers can be on or off every single day and it could be anybody every single day!…hitting or pitching…no consistency what so ever!

  7. What might have been a sweep is turning into a series loss. Now if the Tribe wins tonight we would have wasted the week and there aren’t too many left. The O’s will come to Comerica knowing their fate is in their hands.

  8. This is not the time of year for ” blowpen blows”…who can be counted on besides Frankie….
Yet we knew months ago the potential for this was always there…and here it is…right in front of our eyes…this one certainly isn’t on Brad..what u gonna do?

  9. How bad is your team when you can’t get the job done and you need everyone else to beat the teams you are chasing…in my opinion you aren’t a playoff team if thats what you are counting on!

  10. Hey McCann he just threw you strike two and strike three exactly in the same place..umpire called them both a strike…SURPRIZE….

  11. First and second no one out..Brad puts up the same exact 3 hitters who failed last night again in the exact same stuiation in the ninth again, and they fail exactly the same way…K(looking), pop out (ball inside) first pitch, K on 4 pitched balls…..all three very poor attempts..Brad-2

  12. Heres what the last two days cost the Tigers…regardless whether the Indians win or lose tonight…If the Indians go 10-12.
The Tigers will have to go 17-5 to pass them….Indians 11-11, Tigers need 18-4, Indians12-10, pretty likely Tigers will need 19-3..none of these will happen with the Tigers. Any of the three will happen with the Indians…….

So its Wild Card or nothing now !..Tigers control their own destiney…. thats prolly unfortunate the way they play. But as Pappy Davis used to say…”If it can be done with a pencil, it can be done on the field”!!!!
Its Wild Card or nothing for at least one extra playoff game…….

  13. Two most important games of the year yesterday and today…
    Maybin
    Cabrerra
    VMart
    JMart
    Kinsler
    …….0 RBI added together..nuff said.Indians didn’t put AL Central out of reach…the Tigers did…

    1. Jim Joyce again – pretty sad that a foul tip is not reviewable – especially when it involves a couple runs in a game that means something to a number of teams…meanwhile Joyce and MLB look silly

…and don’t get me started on plate umps meandering/inconsistent balls & strikes calls – time to step aside and employ the technology that will speed up & improve the game and make umpire jobs easier

  14. The rest of the season now is Baltimore..Toronto…Detroit..Houson
Only…Cleveland did what the needed and unless they go 7-15 or worse they leave the pack.
    Its Wildcard or nothing!

  15. The baseball gods have been smiling on the Tribe. We need to make a statement to the O’s this weekend. Meanwhile while technology exists to call balls and strikes, you will still need an umpire behind the plate to call other stuff.

    1. i agree Ole Miss, the technology calls balls & strikes and the HP ump has to just call out what the computer “calls”…and tend to the other HP ump duties like watching for foul tips (as Joyce clearly missed), fair/foul, check swings, etc

technology calling balls and strikes could allow the HP ump to concentrate on other key duties

i’ve seen too many games improperly influenced by erratic strike zones – and if we have to technology to call it consistent and correctly, why not employ the technology?

    2. …as for DET ‘making a statement’ in the BAL series, i’m quite certain ‘a statement will be made’ by one of these teams, but my confidence that DET’s statement will be positive… is slipping

BAL & DET have some key injuries, and both have potent offenses (when ‘on’) and middling pitching, so the team that takes the series will earn it…

  16. Nine days into September and things do not look as good as they did on the 1st. We really messed it up in Chicago. Houston won the first two in Cleveland but then lost the last two while we were playing 500 ball with the Sox. These 3 games with the O’s are very big. Any slip ups and it could end our chances which are slim anyway.

  17. Of all the teams (TOR, BAL, NYY, HOU, KC & DET) vying for a WC spot, every team has a harder remaining schedule than DET except KC – but that fact still doesn’t provide me with much confidence DET will grab one of WC spots, namely because DET has 7 games left w/CLE…and we all know how DET has played against CLE this yr (1-11)

fortunately college (& NFL) football has started
