The Tigers got out of Cleveland with a series win (something that didn’t happen all of last year), which is the important thing. Still, one can hear the bullpen ticking in the background, especially, as Kevin pointed out in the comments, with our closer. Still, the Tigers bullpen believe in itself, so there’s that.
Meanwhile, Tiger greats Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell cut the ribbons for Wayne State’s new Harwell Field, which looks nothing like the proverbial house by the side of the road.
Today’s Glass Half Fulmer Lineup:
- Ian Kinsler, 2B
- Nick Castellanos, 3B
- Miguel Cabrera, 1B
- Victor Martinez, DH
- Justin Upton, LF
- Tyler Collins, RF
- Alex Avila, C
- Jacoby Jones, CF
- Jose Iglesias, SS
Pitching: Michael Fulmer vs Matt Andriese
Old Man Alex continues to bring the lumber, and gets another start. He is now hitting .700 (7-for-10. Remember when we would have been thrilled if he managed a .700 OPS?), with a ridiculous 2.286 OPS. Even more incredible: Alex Avila has yet to be put out on a ball in play, with his only three times out being on strikeouts.
Happy Birthday Miguel! Well done! Your back must be better!
none of the top five (batting order) DET hitters are batting over .230
i know its early
Nice play by J-Up. With the offense at the beach tonight, we can’t give up any more runs.
That’s our pen. But to be fair to Brad, he had to take Fulmer out after throwing 88 pitches. We can now finish with Sanchez.
Perhaps the hitting woes are because it’s too cold!…. Oh wait,… They are in Florida… Time for the $$$$ boys to start playing…
I watched every game except last night and the first week I thought the Tigers showed good plate discipline… But as each game unfolds the “swing batter batter batter”, that we know so well gets worse and worse… Kinsler and McCann swing at anything thrown anywhere and most everyone else take good pitches and go after crap a lot of the time. I don’t know why we use the excuse, it’s early…… It’s your job and you are paid huge amounts of $$$ to do your job!
