From the article: Family matters will play a part, as will the team. So will the opportunity to continue closing, though he said it’s not a deal-breaker. Asked how much his ties to the Tigers matter, he said, “more than money.”
The guy in charge of the Tiger Stadium auction is answering questions about the auction, items up for sale, and other things. His contribution starts on page 3 of the thread.
He’s willing to move to first, but only if that shortstop is of a Renteria/Cabrera (and presumably Alex Rodriguez) type player. Not for a Jack Wilson type player.
Morosi frames the same story somewhat differently, and I disagree with his assessment. It’s not just about Guillen’s defense at shortstop. It’s that combined with Casey’s lack of offense at first that has Santiago in the lineup.
Buried at the bottom are notes that Cale Iorg and Jeramy Laster will be playing in the Hawaiian Winter League. I didn’t know there was such a thing, but it sounds like a sweet gig.
An enhanced gameday break down of Jurrjens start against the Twins. He went very fastball heavy, but the good news is that his velocity increased as the game went on.
Before the season I would have said Grady – as much as I love Grandy – based on age and OBP. But offensively right now it’s a push and Grandy is the better defender.
Sam recaps Blogger night, with lots of pictures. She summed up the high points and made fun of me for eating a fajita. Like last year there were lots of laughs and a good time was had by most.

Rob Neyer weighs in on AL MVP and notes that A-Rod should be the winner. But concedes that if the Tigers somehow overtake the Yankees then Ordonez becomes a co-favorite, but that voters need to consider Curtis Granderson who is 2nd in WARP.
Hey it’s another list of underrated players, and once again Placido Polanco is on it. Is there a limit to the number of times one can be called overlooked or underappreciated?
Probably not given the results. The loss of 2 weeks worth of ABs in the minors wouldn’t be a big deal, except that he lost significant time to injury as well. I really think the org. was thinking he could provide a spark.
“It’s hard to get really excited about a team which has gone 17-29 since July 19th, is 7 1/2 games out of first and trailing 2 teams in the wild card chase. But Rogers is back, Sheffield returns tomorrow and Timo is a hero so there is still hope.”
C’mon guys. Someone snap up those last few tickets or Mrs. Billfer will be angry. Sept 11th, the night game, hanging out with internet friends, fun right?
