Tigers Minor League Wrap 5-8-08

Lehigh Valley 3 Toledo 7
Mike Hessman hit his 12th homer. Freddy Guzman, now with Toledo with the promotion of Matt Joyce, had 2 hits and a walk. Chris Lambert went 8 innings allowing only a walk and 2 hits while fanning 5.

Trenton 7 Erie 2

Josh Rainwater only pitched an inning and surrendered 5 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. In all the Seawolves ended up needing 6 pitchers.

Vero Beach 3 Lakeland 4

Mike Bertram had 3 hits. Scott Sizemore doubled and walked. Matt O’Brien allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings while fanning 3.

West Michigan 2 Lansing 0
Casper Wells, Audy Ciriaco and Joe Bowen each had 2 hits. Ciriaco also made his 15th error of the season. Ramon Garcia picked up the 3 hit complete game shut out walking 1 and fanning 5.

Tigers Minor Leauge Wrap 5-5-08

Lehigh Valley 7 Toledo 11
Mike Hessman, Jeff Larish, and Timo Perez all homered. Hessman and Larish now have 20 combined homers. For Perez his was part of a 4 for 4 day. Mike hollimon had two hits and a walk. Brent Clevlen was 3 for 5. Virgil Vasquez returned to the rotation and fanned 6 in 5 innings while allowing 3 runs.

Wil Rhymes and Deik Scram had 2 hits a piece. Jon Connolly was knocked around for 13 hits in 6 innings including 2 homers.

Lakeland 9 St. Lucie 2
Cale Iorg homered and singled driving in 3 runs. Ryan Strieby added 2 hits. James Skelton went 0 for 4 and saw his average slip to .262. Rick Porcello threw 6 shut out innings allowing only 3 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 2 and picked up 12 ground ball outs.

Kane County 2 West Michigan 1
Kyle Peter doubled, walked, and stole two bases while being caught once. Manny Miguelez scattered 8 hits over 5.2 shutout innings. Noah Krol took the loss allowing 2 runs on a hit and 2 walks.

Tigers Minor League Wrap 5-2-08

Rochester 6 Toledo 4
Mike Hessman hit his 10th homer and added a walk. Dane Sardhina doubled and singled. Willis was the starter on his rehab assignment and allowed 2 runs in 4.2 innings.

Erie 9 Altoona 10
Wil Rhymes was 4 for 4. Kody Kirkland homered, singled, and drove in 4. Josh Rainwater allowed 6 runs and didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning.

Lakeland 5 Dunedin 4
Scott Sizemore had 3 hits and a walk. Ryan Strieby and Mike Bertram also had 3 hits apiece including a homer for Strieby. Jonah Nickerson allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 3 K’s in 5.1 innings.

Quad Cities 3 West Michigan 16
Jordan Newton had a single, a double, and two triples. Audy Ciriaco also had 4 hits. Cory Middleton homered. Jon Kibler pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 run on 2 hits, 4 walks, and 7 K’s.

Mike Hessman went 3 for 3 with a walk including his 9th homer. Brent Clevlen homered and tripled and is now hitting 284/346/526 – but still striking out in a third of his at-bats. Yorman Bazardo only allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings, but he did walk 3. Casey Fossum added 3.1 innings of 1 hit relief.

Erie 2 Akron 6
Danny Worth singled and walked. Max St. Pierre was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and is hitting a surprising 371/443/532. Danny Christensen allowed 4 runs, only 2 of which were earned, in 5.2 innings.

Lakeland 7 Dunedin 2
Justin Justice was 3 for 4 with a homer and a walk. James Skelton singled and added 3 walks. Duane Below allowed 7 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings, but only 2 runs crossed the plate and he added 6 K’s.

Tigers Minor League Wrap 4-29-08

Toledo 4 Louisville 3
Mike Hollimon doubled, tripled, and walked. Brent Clevlen added 2 hits and a walk. Derek Wathan homered. Eddie Bonine moved to 5-0 with a 6 inning, 3 run, no walk, 8 K effort.

Erie 7 Akron 4
Wilkin Ramirez homered twice, doubled, and walked and is now hitting 316/350/621. Max St. Pierre, Danny Worth, and Ryan Roberson all had multiple hits. Lucas French allowed 3 unearned runs in 4 innings. Freddy Dolsi got his second Erie save with a scoreless inning.

Lakeland – DNP

West Michigan 5 Wisconsin 7
Jordan Newton was a homer short of the cycle. Justin Henry added 2 hts. Manny Miguelez allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 5 K’s in 5 innings.

Jeff Larish doubled, tripled, and walked twice. Erick Almonte was 3 for 3 with a homer and two walks. Derek Wathan was a homer short of the cycle. Yorman Bazardo allowed 3 runs in 4 innings on 6 hits with 1 walk and no strike outs. Casey Fossum allowed 3 runs in 2.1 innings as he walked 3 and allowed 2 hits.

Max St. Pierre was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and is hitting .383. Danny Worth has been batting in the two-spot and has lifted his line to 316/375/494. Not bad for a guy drafted last year playing at AA. Josh Rainwater allowed 2 runs in 6 innings on 3 walks and 6 K’s.

Fort Myers 2 Lakeland 3
Jonah Nickerson didn’t allow a baserunner until the lead off man reached in the 8th inning. He only allowed 2 singles, both of which scored, and he fanned 4. Justin Justice had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

West Michigan 7 Cedar Rapids 8 (11 innings)
Joe Tucker had 3 hits. Chris Carlson and Kody Kaiser each had 2 hits. Jon Kibler allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and a walk with 5 K’s in 7 innings.

James Sketon was 2 for 5. Brennan Boesch also added two hits. Justin Justice homered. Duane Below allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks while fanning 6.

Kyle Peter, Audy Ciriaco, and Justin Henry each had 2 hits. Lauren Gagnier allowed 7 runs in 4.2 innings.

Danny Worth followed up his 5 hit night with his 2nd homer. Freddy Guzman added 2 hits and a stolen base. Andrew Kown allowed 4 runs in 5 innings.

LFT Blog has the report on Porcello’s outing. Like his other turns, he started off excellent before running out of steam in the middle innings. Not a big concern at all at this point. Lou Ott had 3 hits.

Mike Hollimon was 2 for 4 with a homer in just his second game back. Jeff Larish added his 6th homer and a walk. Chris Lambert pithed 5 shut out innings on 4 walks, 2 K’s, and 3 hits. Blaine Neal is still unblemished with a scoreless 9th.

Erie 7 Harrisburg 0
Lucas French pitched 8 inninigs of 3 hit, no walk ball. Danny Worth had a 5 for 5 night missing the homer for the cycle.

Dunedin 1 Lakeland 3
Scott Sizemore had 2 hits, as did Ryan Strieby and Jeff Kunkel. Luis Marte fanned 11 over 7 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits. He has 28 K’s in 22 innings.

Beloit 4 West Michigan 5
Kyle Peter was 4 for 6 with a walk and 2 stolen bases. Audy Ciriaco added 3 hits. Manny Miguelez allowed 4 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 8 K’s over 6.2 innings

It’s amazing what a big story Francisco Cruceta has become. I’m certainly intrigued but you’d think he’s the second coming of Mariano Rivera. Well, in his AAA debut he certainly impressed, even if he may have been tipping his pitches. Striking out the side on 10 pitches is a nice debut. In all he pitched 3 scoreless innings fanning 6. Mike Hollimon also made his season debut and went 1 for 4 with a double. Mike Hessman hit his 6th homer.

Erie 12 Harrisburg 2
Dusty Ryan had 3 hits and a walk. Wilkin Ramirez doubled and homered. Deik Scram homered and walked twice. Ben Fritz went 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while fanning 3.

Lakeland 9 Fort Myers 10
Cale Iorg went 3 for 5. Justin Justice added 3 hits including a home run. Matt O’Brien started and allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Jordan Tata made an appearance and struggled. He didn’t make it out of his inning before allowing 4 runs on a hit and 4 walks.

Beloit 3 West Michigan 5
Casper Wells had 3 hits and a walk. Ronnie Bourquin and Jordan Newton each had multi hit games. Alfredo Figaro allowed 2 runs on 6 innings and now has a 0.75 ERA.

Max St. Pierre singled and walked twice. Josh Rainwater allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks with only 1 strike out in 5 innings.

Jeramy Laster and Justin Justice each homered for the Flying Tigers. Cale Iorg who had been killing the ball struggled with an 0 for 4, 3 K night. Jonah Nickerson struggled allowing 6 runs in 5.1 innings.

Beloit 1 West Michigan 2
Curtis Granderson tripled and fanned twice in 4 at-bats. Roger Tomas was 3 for 3 and is now hitting .423. Ramon Garcia went 8 innings allowing 1 run with no walks and 4 K’s. Noah Krol fanned 2 in his inning of work for the save.
