Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 15th

Toledo 7, Syracuse 3
Ryan Ludwick was 2 for 4 with a homer. Josh Phelps and Brian Peterson each added two hits as well. Jordan Tata scattered 10 hits over 8 innings for only 3 runs. He fanned 7 and walked 1.

Erie 5, Reading 4
Brent Clevlen was 2 for 3 with a double. Virgil Vasquez pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with 6 K’s.

Lakeland 10, Tampa 2
Clete Thomas had two hits and Jeff Larish drew 3 walks. Chris Robinson was 3 for 4 and is now hitting 263. Jon Connolly, who you may remember was part of the Tigers organization and traded for Felix Sanchez, returned and made the start. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 walks and 3 hits without any strike outs.

Fort Wayne 8, West Michigan 0
West Michigan was 3 hits so there isn’t any offense to report. Sendy Vasquez was knocked around for 6 runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Michael Hollimon singled and walked. Cameron Maybin was 0 for 2 with 2 walks. Erik Averill allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 4 innings.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 14th

Syracuse 4, Toledo 2
Tike Redman was 2 for 4 with a double and Josh Phelps hit his 7th homer. Mike Hessman chipped in with his 13th homer. Colby Lewis went 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while fanning 4.

Reading 4, Erie 3 (10 innings)
Nate Bumstead started and allowed 3 runs on 3 walks and 7 hits in 6 innings. Eulogio De La Cruz pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Kody Kirkland had two doubles and Brent Clevlen was 2 for 4.

Lakeland 4, Tampa 1
Jeff Larish homered (12) and singled while Jeff Frazier also picked up 2 hits. Jeremy Johnson went 7 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits with a BB/K ratio of 2/3. Kevin Whelan allowed a walk but fanned two in a scoreless 9th inning.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 13th

Toledo 1, Syracuse 0
Humberto Sanchez was the story with 7 innings of 3 hit ball, one walk, and 7 K’s. Not bad for his second start at AAA and has continued the success he saw in the Arizona Fall League. Chris Spurling pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Nook Logan singled and walked and Ryan Ludwick added two singles and a walk.

Reading 15, Erie 3 (9th inning in progress)
Mike Rabelo was 3 for 3 with a walk and Kurt Airoso homered. Erie’s lineup tonight had one hitter, Rabelo, who was hitting over .250. Brian Jones was tagged for 7 runs, but only one was earned, in 4 2/3 innings. He walked 4 and fanned 2. Brent Clevlen made and error (his 3rd) and Kody Kirkland added two (his 13th and 14th).

Dunedin 3, Lakeland 0
Clete Thomas doubled twice to collect half of Lakeland’s hits. Andrew Kown pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, 4 walks, and 5 K’s.

Yes, the Lakeland Tigers were shut out in both ends of a double header. Jeff Larish managed a double for one of the 4 hits. Kevin Ardoin was chased after 3 innings and 6 runs on 6 hits.

Dayton 5, West Michigan 2
Justin Justice had two hits and Cameron Maybin was 1 for 3 with a walk. Maybin also picked up his 8th steal. Michael Hollimon fanned 3 times and walked once. Ramon Garcia went six innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits.

Tigers sign 18 from 2006 draft

The Tigers announced today that they have signed 18 of the players the team drafted this year. The highest picked Tiger draftee to sign is 8th round pick Chris Cody.

Toledo 5, Ottawa 0
Chad Durbin threw the complete game shut out. He allowed only 6 hits and he fanned 10 on 119 pitches. Mike Hessman provided the runs with a homer and a single. David Espinosa also added 2 hits.

Lucas French pitched 6 innings allowing one run on 4 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5. Justin Justice, Michael Hernandez, and Matt Joyce picked up the 3 hits for the Caps. Cameron Maybin was 0 for 4 with 2 K’s.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 11th

Toledo 6, Ottawa 2
Nook Logan had two hits and a walk. Ryan Raburn and Mike Hessman both doubled and walked. Wil Ledezma pitched 7 scoreless innings allowing 6hits and 3 walks against 6 strikeouts. He was pulled after throwing 117 pitches. Mark Woodyard pitched the 9th and allowed 3 hits and 2 runs.

Portland 2, Erie 1
Tony Giarratano had two hits for Erie. Preston Larrison went 7 1/3 allowing only one run on 5 hits and 4 walks.

Lakeland 4, Dunedin 1
Lakeland’s total offensive output was 4 singles, and two doubles. But they bunched those hits for a 4 run first inning. Clete Thomas reached base twice singling and walking. Dallas Trahern started, but pitched only 1 1/3 innings and was pulled after a rain delay. PJ Finigan pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Kevin Whelan gave up the lone run with two hits and a walk in one inning of work.
West Michigan 4, Dayton 3
Cameron Maybin doubled and singled and Michael Hernandez added two hits. Burke Badenhop allowed 3 walks and 9 hits in 5 innings, but that resulted in only 3 runs. Josh Rainwater pitched 2 scoreless innings for the win and Orlando Perdomo picked up the save after allowing two hits. Anthony Claggett pitched a scoreless inning and has now allowed 1 run in 29 1/3 innings.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 10th

Toledo 9, Ottawa 4
Victor Mendez, who was promoted to Toledo on May 31st, had 3 hits. David Espinosa, Ryan Ludwick, and Kevin Hooper each added two while Ryan Raburn hit his 11th homer. Jordan Tata allowed 7 hits and 3 walks in only 5 innings of work for 4 runs (3 earned).

Portaland 7, Erie 3
Tony Giarratano singled and had two walks for Erie. Eulogio De La Cruz made a 3 inning start. He struckout 5, but allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk.

Portland 4, Erie 2
Brent Clevlen was 2 for 3 and Tony Giarratano added two hits. Virgil Vasquez allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

Lakeland 5, Fort Myers 4 (10 innings)
Gil Meija and Jeff Frazier each drew two walks while Nick McIntyre singled and homered. Jair Jurrjens allowed 5 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) in 6 2/3 innings. He fanned 6 and walked none.

West Michigan 6, Dayton 1
As Tim pointed out in the comments to yesterday’s game thread, Cameron Maybin hit a 9th inning grand slam. He also added a walk and a single. Justin Justice and Will Rhymes each had 3 hits. Erik Averill had an excellent start allowing one run on 5 hits and no walks in 7 innings while k’ing 7.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 8th

I’ve been remiss in my minor league updates this week. Fortunately work is slowing down and I can get back into a regular rhythym. Thanks to Tim who provided some updates in the comments of other posts. I really appreciate it when you guys have my back.

Toledo 2, Buffalo 1
Humberto Sanchez who has been starring at the AA level made his AAA debut last night. He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks for one run in 5 2/3 innings. He fanned 5 in a very, very solid effort. Nook Logan, who returned from the DL this week, doubled and scored a run. Stuggling catcher Brian Peterson doubled twice and Ryan Ludwick homered.

New Hampshire 5, Erie 1
Mike Rabelo had two doubles and Kody Kirklkand added one. Nate Bumstead was knoecked around for 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He fanned 5.

New Hapmshire 1, Erie 0
The catchers provided all the offense for Erie in this double header. Danilo Sanchez had 3 of the Tigers five hits in this game. Lance Davis pitched very well. He threw 6 innings of 2 hit ball, walking none and stirking out 4. Davis is touring the farm system having pitched at Toledo and Lakeland already. I would have preferred to see Jair Jurrjens get the promotion from Lakeland.

Lakeland 3, Fort Meyers 2
There wasn’t much offense to speak of. Clete Thomas walked and singled and Chris Robinson singled in a run. Kevin Ardoin went six innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks. Kevin Whelan pitched an uneventful 9th for his 12th save.

West Michigan 10, Fort Wayne 3
Michael Hernandez continues to rake as he hit for the cycle. Dusty Ryan added 3 hits and Michael Hollimon doubled twice. The game also featured a brawl. Ramon Garcia went 5 innings and allowed one run on 6 six hits while fanning 4.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 5th

Toledo 4, Buffalo 2
Jack Hannahan homered and added two singles. Ryan Ludwick added two hits. Wil Ledezma had another strong start allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. He struck out 5.

Erie-DNP

Lakeland 9, Clearwater 3
Clete Thomas and Garth McKinney each had 3 hits. The offensive start though was Jeff Larish with two homers and two walks. Jair Jurrjens allowed 5 hits and 3 walks for 3 runs in 7 innings (3 K’s). Kevin Whelan pitched a scoreless ninth allowing one baserunner while fannings 2.

West Michigan 6, Quad Citiies 5 (11 innings)
Michael Hollimon had two hits and two singles. Pedro Cotto and Matt Joyce added two hits as well. Erik Averill threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and two walks.

Tigers Minor League Wrap – June 4th

Toledo 6, Ottawa 2
Ryan Raburn doubled and singled to continue his hot hitting. Josh Phelps had 3 hits, including his 6th homer. Victor Mendez who was recently promoted from Lakeland added a double. Colby Lewis started and was one out short of a complete game (7 inning CG). He allowed six hits and a walk against six strikeouts.

Ottawa 6, Toledo 1
Jordan Tata went 5 innings and was knocked around for 8 hits and 2 walks. He allowed 5 runs (4 earned) with only one strikeout. Josh Phelps had two hits, as did Tike Redman.
Akron 4, Erie 3
Kody Kirkland singled and doubled twice. Brent Clevlen posted yet another 0’fer dropping his average to .199. Preston Larrison started and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings. Eulogio De La Cruz struck out 7 in 4 innings of scoreless work. He allowed one hit and two walks.

The Caps managed only 4 hits so there isn’t a lot to report. Michael Hollimon doubled and walked. Sendy Vasquez allowed 8 hits, 3 walks, and 6 runs (4 earned) in 5 1/3 inning of work.

Brevard County 3, Lakeland 2
Jeff Frazier doubled and singled for Lakeland. Lance Davis started and went 5 1/3 allowing no runs on 5 hits with 5 K’s.

Quad Cities 3, West Michigan 2
Michael Hernandez continues to rake with 2 more hits. His line is now a very robust 383/444/532. Josh Rainwater allowed 3 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings or work. He walked one and fanned 4.
